The Chicago Spring Half Marathon and 10K is committed to being environmentally and socially sustainable. That includes striving to be an energy-efficient, zero-waste event and encouraging participation by all members of our community. To show our commitment, we are working with Athletes for a Fit Planet to earn certification to the Council for Responsible Sport sustainability standard.

Here are some of the things you can do to help make this a sustainable event:

- Every mile you drive produces about a pound of CO2. So we encourage Volunteers to carpool, use mass transit or ride your bike to the race to minimize our carbon footprint.
- Use the right bins when you throw away your trash.
- Bring your own reusable water bottle.

Is Locked? You can only register to this shift if you know the private code.
Description
Gear Check Captains are the lead point in disseminating information and providing instruction to their respective volunteer team, and will be the point of contact for any questions or concerns on race day. You will receive a radio and clipboard when you check in at the Volunteer Tent. Take all your equipment to the Gear Check Area to organize the area before your Volunteers arrive. One Volunteer will be placed at each table to receive the bags from all participants. ALL contents from participant's bags must be removed and visible within the given clear plastic bag. The participant must than label their bag with the tag from their bib. The Volunteer that receives the bag will then double check that everything is labeled correct before handing over to another Volunteer that will use a bag hook to hang the bag in the correct numerical order. Make sure to receive the bags from the participants as quick as possible to avoid lines. There will be plenty of down time to arrange the bags in numerical order after the start of the race so don't be afraid to let the bags pile up. You must check out at the Volunteer Tent before leaving.
